I installed a new hard drive because I was getting the message "The driver has detected that device \Device\Harddisk has predicted that it will fail. Immediately back up your data and replace your hard drive. A failure may be imminent."
but I can't read my windows product key on the bottom of my laptop. I tried key finder but it doesn't seem to match it found CQBVJ-9J697-PWB9R-4K7W4-2BT4J (see picture)
Also now I start getting a popup that says "This computer is not running genuine Windows". I click the "Resolve Online Now" link and download the software. When I try to run it, I keep getting the following error: "Update installation failed: Error information - 0xC80000247". When I click properties on my computer it says it's genuine and verified???
Also I can't update windows after I installed the new hard drive I get the error message "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."

    Please HELP....

    Welcome to Major Geeks.

I'm guessing you're not using a restore CD/DVD that came directly from Samsung for your specific model.

If this is the case and you're using a retail or generic OEM copy of Windows, the license code assigned to the Samsung OEM copy of Windows will not work. This is an anti-piracy feature on Windows but also a pain in the a-- when in a situation like yours.

Your two options are to either contact Samsung and attempt to buy a restore CD/DVD for your specific model or buy a new copy/license of Windows. Either way, you'll have to reformat the drive and reinstall Windows using the new license code if it's not the Samsung OEM disc.

    Hope this helps. :)

I created a system image and a repair disk before I removed the old HHD. Then I put the new HDD in and re-installed everything from the system image DVD. (Twice)
a restore CD/DVD did not come with my Samsung laptop N-480. :(
I put the old hdd back in and did a complete system restore the made a new system image and a repair disk. I put the new hdd in and re-installed everything from the new system image DVD.
The "This computer is not running genuine Windows". error is new. When I right click computer it says windows activated.
I contacted Samsung for a restore CD/DVD but no reply yet.
    Thanks for your quick answer
