    Good evening,

Lap top was slow, had all kinds of pop ups and page redirects and sometimes the internet wouldn't work at all. I went through all the steps as per the "Read & Run Through" Post. With the help of my phone, I was able to get through all the steps even when the internet wouldn't work. After everything, there were still some issues since I didn't do anything with results unless I was told to. One change is now a redirect page sometimes reads, " [GeniusBox] DNS Lookup for "d2e24t2jgcnor2.webhostoid.com" failed. No such host is known ".

Thank you so much for your help.
    Valerie

    You're welcome. :)

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=127.0.0.1:49404;https=127.0.0.1:49404
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {e44a1809-4d10-4ab8-b343-3326b64c7cdd} - (no file)

    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • the JRT.TXT log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hello,

Thank you for the quick response. I can't access the internet on my profile that I was previously working on. It says that the Proxy server isn't working. I should mention that initially, I thought you meant to run the MGtools on my desktop so I ran that first. Also, because I forgot to turn my firewall and antivirus back on from the Read and Run Me post, I thought I didn't have to again but I think they had come back on automatically from the reboot after the OTM. So, I hope that didn't mess anything up. Really sorry if so!

Are you saying that you needed that proxy server setting that I asked you to fix with analyse.exe ??? I still see it in your log so apparently you did not fix it.

If you are not supposed to be using this proxy then you need to fix it as that could be why you cannot access the internet.

I went back and sure enough, it wasn't removed. I'm not sure what happened because I clearly remember checking it off because I was trying to be sure I selected the right one since there was another similar entry (which was also still there). Also, I was sure to exit all browsers. I'm sorry anyway, but it is done. The internet is now working, of course so thank you. Last night, there were still issues other than the internet not working but as of this morning so far no issues.

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Hello again,

First, I want to thank you so much for all of your help. Yes, I went through as suggested and everything has been good but there's just one thing. For my Windows 8.1, the start screen hasn't been working right. Some things still work like pictures but most things don't like the IE browser, email and other apps. The browser will pull up and will act like it's loading on a blank screen but never actually does anything. The apps that do not run like email start to pull up but then it goes to the desktop and seems closed. An icon shows on the desktop screen task bar but nothing is up or pulls up when clicked on. I feel it may have to do with the Pokki. It was something I had installed before the 8.1 update that would allow start menu items to run in desktop mode. It's not something I miss at this point, just wondered if it might be connected. I created a new profile to see if it would behave the same and it does. As I already mentioned, I went through your final list and reset the system restore before I realized this was happening. I had grown accustomed to just using the desktop since the start screen internet was the first to go when I started having malware problems and hadn't noticed the change since the malware problems were only mostly connected to the internet before. I realize that it's probable that this is just how it will run from now on and it's fine since I believe there is full functionality in the desktop mode. Not so much most of the apps but I would be able to manage without them. I thought I ought to mention it in case you know of anything that could fix it. I am aware of the disclaimer at the beginning of the Read & Run Through post.

    Many thanks again,
    Valerie

Well I'm not sure we can do anything about this because it sounds mostly like Windows related issues but let's try a couple things.

Be patient while doing the below. The fixes can sometimes take quite awhile to run. Especially the permissions repairs. It may be best to kick it off and goto bed or do something else. It is better not to run anything while the repairs are going on.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    • Now run Repair_Windows.exe by double clicking on it ( if you are running Vista or Win 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator)
    • Now select the Start Repairs tab.
    • The click the Start button.
    • Create a System Restore point if prompted.
    • On the next screen, click the Unselect All button to first deselect all repairs.
    • Now select the following repair options:
      • Reset Registry Permissions
      • Reset File Permissions
      • Register System Files
      • Repair WMI
      • Remove Policies Set By Infections
      • Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
      • Repair Proxy Settings
      • Repair Windows Updates
      • Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
    • Now on the lower right side check the box to Restart/Shutdown System When Finished
    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.
    • Now click the Start button.
    • Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
    • It should reboot automatically when finished. If it does not then reboot it yourself.

    Did that help at all?
