Yo i got a problem when i try to run maplestory on windows XP in Microsoft Vitual PC.

The error is common "Failed in finding proper screen mode for gr2d"

Thing is, of course, i dont have a 3d accelerator as MS VPC only comes with a 2D softwarematic graphics card...
But i am capable of playing UT2004, this is because it has an own software based 3d accelerator. (filename = pixomatic.dll in ut folder)
So i want to know if it is possible to tweak this dll file to work when i start maplestory.
Any other solution/suggestion is welcome of course

(I tried VMWare AND connectix with no succes)
    Bye,
    Nelis

MapleStory uses the 3D graphic engine. You won't be able to enjoy the game if your graphic card does not support 3D graphic engine. Check to see that your graphic card supports the 3D, and then please check to see if you have installed the latest driver available for your card.

kadavil, thanks for your reply but it seems that you don't have any knowledge of virtual pc.

In virtual pc you create an environment in windows called the "host operating system".
Your virtual environment, called the "guest os" can be any os, linuz, windows mac, whatever.

As you install a virtual os you dont have any hardware there are only software based hardware, youre just fooling the guest os to believe its on a real pc. The hardware of the host os has no relationships with the guest os, if you had known this you would know that your reply is useless...

thanks anyway for reading through my problem and help finding a solution

    Criminelis,

I do have experience in virtual os and vmware with various operating system, and all my experiments are done on the same.
The reason I dint include anything about that was because from the answer you will note that mapletoy uses 3d capabilities eventhough it is a 2d game,so trobleshooting virtual pc was out of the equation.

-Must admit I dont play games on virtual os,but in vmware I once ran a 3d direct x program(a planetarium program)-

No game that requires hardware 3d acceleration will work in VPC or Vmware.

Note that the paragraph above is a quote from the link above.I am not asking you to check your hardware. It is just to inform you that the 2d game uses 3d card functions as well.

ok i am well aware of the fact that the game requires a 3d accelerator and i know that a 2d graphics card, wether it's a physical or a virtual card cannot emulate a 3d chipset... it all comes back to that point.

I don't agree with Adrenalyne however, there are games playable in virtual OS. e.g. Unreal Tournament 2004 runs without any trouble except that the graphics are crappy but if you host a UT2004 game under virtual os then you dont need to worry about it since you only use it as a server.
But i don't want that, i want to use the software that ut2004 runs so i can run it with other games. So i tought it would be a nice idea having the UT2004 software run other games as well. hm, im not giving up yet, if anyone still has a suggestion, youre more then welcome

    from my original post:

Now if UT2004 has a software renderer, then it must not require hardware acceleration.

You don't agree with me because you didn't read my post.

To answer the original post, I don't see how you could modify their renderer to work for other games, especially when the game itself must be coded to be able to use a software renderer in the first place.

Create a new thread instead of bumping one from three years ago.

    Thanks.
