Mapped Drives open as notepad

When mapping drives off of a server share, it opens up Notepad. I have only found that this affects machines running windows XP Pro with SP3. I am mapping a network share from a Server 2003 R2 machine. Both the server and the client PCs have all available software updates for windows. You can open explorer, and type in the drive letter ex: t:\ and it will open the share that you have associated correctly, however when ever you double click on a shortcut or just open through my computer, it will open a blank notepad document.

Has anyone else run in to this? I have only found one other forum talking about it, and they were not able to address this.
