HI folks... asked this question in a couple of places and had no answer.... so i try here lol

Is there a doctype which supports the marquee element in HTML.

I know, i know, i should just alter the code and utilise something else instead of marquee, and its the only thing which the validator is finding wrong with my code... but im pig headed and want it in lol Surely there must be a way to use it?

I've used the marquee command since about 97 n old habits die hard lol!

Any suggestions would be welcomed :)

I don't think you're going to find any way for the marquee tag to validate. If javascript isn't an option for you, then the next question is: is marquee more important than validation? Maybe someone else has a suggestion. :)

Seriously, marquee is seriously crappy html.

Usage of the word "seriously" twice in a 5 word sentence is "crappy" english. I didnt ask for your opinion of the code. I asked for a doctype which would support it.

Thanks King E.. tis looking like i'm just going to live with no validation lol

I'd vote for validation over HTML marquee. Go with javascript scrollers if you want that type of event on your page. seriously.. ;)

    Hey Kodo :)

LoL to be quite honest i've never touched anything to do with javascript, so i wouldnt know how to do it :(

The problem was this... i had a geocities site, which was listed and got nice n high in the search engine ratings. But... geocities went on a wobble, and suddenly it had been 7 months since my site had been visited by any search bot under the sun. Id been happy with the site before as it was top result in a search for me, but obviously this died with no search engine visits.

I ran a validator over the code as a test and got errors galore, as id done the page in their page builder application and thought no more of it.

Turns out that geocities pagebuilder is pants (not good lol) at building good html, so i had to go thru and alter it myself. (simple stuff like no alt tags on things, underline n bold dec's were closed wrong way round.) i got all the problems sorted except the marquee n doctype and presto, my site is back at the top of the listings but still doesnt fully validate. Part of this is the java script ad which geocities drops on the site, so that can be disregarded so i swiped the code and attempted to validate it as a stand alone doc, but, maquee is not accepted.

Im not sure even if you can have a javascript chunk called into a geocities site? I did keep my copied site open initially to see if that would get googled and come up higher than the geocities site, but then thought about duplicate content and decided to remove it. Googles already done me no favours.. i dont want to give it an excuse hehe

Do you know why marquee isnt supported anymore. Seems strange that it funtions at all if its invalid

I do belive that marquee is deprecated. Which means that some still support it even though it's not valid anymore.
Take a peek here.. least you can do is give it a shot ;)

Thanks.. thats a pretty nifty site lol. The scripts seem easy enough to understand too. I used to toy with programs in c++ n pascal n basic, many many moons ago n tis nice to see i can still make some sense of whats going on! Bring back the old bbc lol!
