Martial Arts - Anyone?

Hey Guys,

I am thinking about taking up Tang Su Do again, I did it while in high school, I loved it, I was in a class of all boys, and I think we all enjoyed our martial arts schooling, it was completely just for our class, originally as a confidence & fitness builder, but sooned turned into a passion, but I dunno, I just stopped, I really have no valid excuse, except for at the stage when I stopped, I was about to start high school and got mixed up with the wrong crowd.

Anyway, I am starting to really get down about my weight and just feeling lazy, and not portioned properly, I have chicken legs, but a pop belly....

So I was thinking of joining back up at the towns local dojo, I`m 25 now and I am guess I am just a bit worried about that first phase of joining, I`m much older, I think I will be comparing then to now, and getting the thought into my head of "What are you bloody doing dude!"...

Any tips or better recommendations? I don't want to join a martial arts class to be a hero, I just like the knowledge, the agility, and your confidence, if done right, gets a boost like you would not imagine, it did back then so I can't see whats changed.....

Plus the fact that I loved pushing my body to do something it has never done before, I`ll never be able to do this ofcourse.... Flip Flop Flap but I`ll be able to stretch my muscles back out to what they are meant to be like for a 25 year old!

I really wanted to get into Martial Arts, but I think it's a bit late... everyone around my age seems to be near black belt.

I think i'd be good for you since it'd make you not lazy, and you'd get into more activities and events in the future.

Everyone worries about those things, but it always turns out being fun, and a really enjoyable experience. I'd go for it!

It's really never too late to take a martial art. I'm thinking about doing Judo

 

i've thought about joining too, but i'm afraid all the little kids in my class would beat me up.

 

I did martial arts when I was 16 - I was in a class of all-boys too *grins*

I'm thinking of starting Tai Chi, lol, even though only chicks do it, but atleast I can do it at home, by myself... I also have hypermobility (can move joints in weird places), it's hard to balance, so that'll be good for me.

I`m in Darwin, there isn't too much options when it comes to choosing a style, although martial arts is treated like a religion here at the best of times (Thats a good thing), the styles are all really the same, from dojo to dojo. As the population grows however, I am sure the arena of styles will start climbing.

I've always thought martial arts were a bit complicated. But then I've never been very discpline-ish.

 

My favorite is Jujitsu. Sadly, I've yet to find a Dojo in Syracuse worth attending

I know, but I was going to take up Tai Chi at one stage too, until I found out more about it!
