Massive Increase in Commit Charge and Handles

Over the day my PC becomes VERY slow - i have loaded a Process Explorer (PROCEXP.EXE) and see thatwhile the physical mem stays around 500k free, the Handles creaps up from 17,000 when re-started to 35,00 why my PC is left over night (just idling along(!!!)), and the Commit Charge goes from 417,000k to (currently) 975,008k !

Where do I start to look for the issues please?

 

Probably a process running wild, process explorer should show you right away.

If using Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) then just add the columns:

Virtual Memory Size (Hits commits charge)
Handle Count (Hits handles)

Then by sorting your processes by either of these columns should show you the sinner.

 

I recently added some more memory BUT the speed of the memory was not the same as the installed - despite the assurance that it would be ok. since taken it out and....no more problems!

 

Sounds like spyware or spyware/virus combination

1) Definately run Ad-Aware
2) Download and run HijackThis! Remove any suspicious looking entries
3) Download and run CWShredder
4) Defrag your drive(s)
5) You might wanna run Crap Cleaner as well (very good at finding and removing up to gb's of junk on your disk)
6) Install update and scan your whole system with AVG antivrus (free)
