    Howdy all

    Just a quick question to ask how important it is to match my RAM frequency to my CPU clock ?

    I have been reading that this should be aimed for but I am not sure if this is right for my system

    I have a P4 200Mhz clock (800FSB)
    Ram = I have x2 1GB DDR2 667Mhz PC5300 real clock 333Mhz

    ok so my real CPU clock of 200Mhz is lower than my real DDR clock of 333Mhz

    The Intel P4 is quad pumped taking it to 800 FSB and my RAM is dual pumped taking it to 667 mhz

    So the CPU is effectivly running faster than the ram -

    Therefore is there really a need to downclock my ram from 333Mhz to 200Mhz in order to keep in line with the base clock figures or does the "pumping" sort it out ?

    Any advice would be appreciated

    Cheers

    no you dont need to drop your memory speed. if your overclock gets too high however your memory will automatically drop its speed to allow for a more stable OC. You can bump it back up to 333 manually which could cause instability but if your RAM can handle it then you should get a pretty good performance boost from it. Every setup is different, mess around with it yourself to figure out what works the best. you will probably have to relax your memory timings to get a higher CPU oc too

    cheers for the come back

    Since posting I decided to sell my 667 and buy some Crucial Balistix DDR2800 instead

    That way the CPU = 800MHz & RAM = 800MHz

    Thanks for the advice though

    by the way on my previous post i meant DDR2 800Mhz
