First, please be aware that I am not well versed in computer operation and frequently get myself into trouble. Recently my computer has become so slow that I was told to install a register cleaner by friends.

For no reason except I read their info, this old Granny installed Max Registry Cleaner. After many strange and odd things happening, I e-mailed their support team and sent them a copy of a log they had me make. Now I don't remember what it was or what they told me to do.

I was told to do X,Y and Z to cure my little quirks. Things keep happening, my pages take a long time to load, computer frequently will freeze..the list goes on. I have AVG, SpywareBlaster, Spybot S & D, and Advanced Windows care.

This machine HP Pavilion 526X runs IE6, SP2 and I want to keep that going.
Windows firewall. 512 MB Ram. Since I use the machine so infrequently, I have plenty of memory.

I finally gave up and last night I removed Max Reg CL via the control panel. Already this thing has speeded up and seems to be running better.

I am current on all updates. My question.

Does the process of "Remove" via the control panel get rid of this Cleaner totally or does it leave some funny stuff that I have to use some other process to remove the rest of it?

    Any comments would be appreciated.

IMO and others don't use reg cleaner it can only harm your computer more (then you get in some real trouble). Anyways have you tried the cleaning they have here? Try to go here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106650 after that go here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 . After you do those like they exactly tell you to, post the correct logs on the malware section of this forum. If its not malware they will send you to software. But try the cleaning now. DO all scans and post logs. If you have trouble write and tell them what you had trouble with. And dont stop if 1 thing doesn't work okay.

Greetings, I did as you said yesterday including runnning CCleaner-lite. This AM, Max Registry Cleaner was back. I removed it from the control panel, and removed the shortcut. How is this possible.

I have been corresponding with them to cancel this and they kept asking for access to my computer, I said no, just credit my charge. I just deleted it again and ran CCleaner again. Lets see if it is there tomorrow.

Use Malwarebytes anti-malware, otherwise you are infected and need to restart in the malware forum.

DomLuc, RevoUninstaller only works on programs installed AFTER you install their program. All uninstallers work this way. They are not effective with current situations.

Roger that. Either way, its an infection, I think she can be done using Malwarebytes.

The Max Registry Cleaner was running when I turned on the computer this AM. It is again in the list of programs in the Control Panel. I went to task manager and stopped it from running this AM and deleted the Icon in the task bar. I guess I will now go to the malware forum and see if someone there has a suggestion. The company is giving me my money back but I still cannot figure out how the program came back after removing it and running Ccleaner and Malwarebytes. Thanks all.
