just a quick question. a friend of mine has a amd 64 3200 and the temps go up to 68C after running prime95 for only a couple of minutes. im pretty sure that this is wayyy to hot, but how hot can it go before crashing the system? i only have intel so i dunno about amd. is 70C the limit?

70c is the limit, but it shouldn't be going at 65c that's way too hot!
Get a decent cpu cooler on it, but bear in mind it's summer now.
I'm using a Zalman cooler that has a 120mm fan on it, keeps my cpu below 40c.

Yes all new amd cpu's have heat protection as good as intels, you can actually remove the heatsink while its running and the computer will just shutoff, replace it and reboot and everythings fine again, dont believe me LOL :D check out this video, stick with it the heat test is towards the end,I dont think you can stream it either

The problem is how long it will last running so hot, time for some extra cooling. :)
