I have just recently installed a maxtor HD, It is set up as a slave. The computer recognizes it in the CMOS, however it is not accessible when windows loads. In other words, the hard drive is working, but it is not visible or accesible in "My Computer".

i'm assuming you have windows 2000/xp, then

right click on the "my computer" icon on your desktop and go to "manage"
on the left, click on disk management under storage
find your second drive (disk 1, NOT disk 0) and you should see that it's labeled unpartitioned or something like that.
right click on the unpartitioned part and create a new partition and just follow the wizard from there.

if you have any questions, feel free to ask. the disk management program isn't the greatest in the world.
