Maxtor OneTouch 4 500GB discovery issue.

Alright, Here's my problem.

I have a Maxtor OneTouch 4 500GB external HDD that has recently gone through a move and now will not show up on any computer I plug it into. I've switched to different USB ports on both computers and downloaded the "Maxtor Manager" software from their site. I've even gone and switched USB cables with the same plugs to see if it was wire issues. I've been browsing the site trying to find a solution without having to create a new post but I've come to my wits end with this one. Now the issue may reside between seat and keyboard but I don't know if there's software out that can do a disc recovery on something it can't discover.

I seriously need help on this one and any information that will even get me a step ahead into solving this problem will be greatly appreciated.

That drive is apparently notoriously unreliable.

I don't see anyone on Newegg that had much luck with recovery. If you don't care about warranty status you could try opening the case and removing the drive and connecting it directly to your computer if the PC has SATA connections. At least one person was able to recover the drive that way (most could not). But I would think if BIOS sees the drive when directly connected there might be a chance of recovering the files even if Windows still didn't pick up the partitions.
