    Hello,

I hope someone can help me with this. I have an HP Pavillion s7600n Slimline and the hard drive went on it. It was a Seagate 200GB SATA. I went to newegg and got a Seagate 250GB and installed it. I put in the recovery disk and bott the comp... I get a splash screen, boot disk formats HD, then I get a BSOD. I tried this several times, always with the same results. So, I pulled an old 80 GB SATA I had lying around and the Boot disks worked perfectly. I reinstalled the 250GB HD and again I get the BSOD. I decided to just forget the HP restore disks and I went with a copy of XP Pro SP2 I have and the install went well. Now, the comp will just shut down for no reason. I shuts down like an overheat but its not overheating as far as I can tell. I downloaded some software (can't remember which) that showed the CPU temps staying constant. I left it on all night with no issues, but a couple days later, it just shuts down again. Sometimes it will run for 10 hours, sometimes for 10 minutes. I did not upgrade to SP3 as there are issues with the Slimline PC's with AMD processors. If it is installed, the system will shutdown and restart over and over. I checked all the caps on the motherboard and all seem to be good. There is no dust in this machine at all. Power Supply fan is working. RAM is seated. I never thought it would, but could the HD be responsible for this behavior?

    Thanks

be sure your memory is ok as faulty memory can cause all sorts of problems, try this- http://www.memtest.org/
Also make sure your power supply is ok, you need to check your +5volt & +3.3volt rail, if the 5volt rail is dipping below about 4.5v-4.6v all sorts of problems can happen.
You could also have a faulty mother board

I'm guessing a heat problem. 10 hours or 10 minutes...sometime in that time frame one of the fans probably stops turning and the computer shuts off to save the CPU. I know you can't tell when the pc is going to shut down but take a side off and look at all the fans. Keep the side off and when the computer shuts down quickly look and see if you can tell if a fan isn't spinning.
