MB or CPU Issue

My PC died on me this week, and I'm hoping to determine the root cause.

The problem started with a BSOD, and upon reboot, my MB was giving a voice post on an issue, but due to the location of the PC, I was unable to hear what it was. From here, I move the PC and opened it up so I could hear what the message was, but it never posted again, and I get no video. My neighbor was able to test the PSU, HD & Video card and reported them to all be fine. He believes it is the MB or CPU, but is unable to test any further with my style system. I have cleared my CMOS, hoping that the message would post again... Not the case.

Currently when I power the system up, I have a green light on the MB (always on when PSU is on), I can hear the HD & CD ROMS being powered up, the video card doesn't apper to get powered up based on the fan not spinning, or only for a fraction of a second. The monitor never receives a signal, and that's where I stand.

I'm mainly wanting to know if others agree with the assesment I've been given, and if they have anything that could further determine if the problem is the CPU or MB.

MB - ASUS P4P800 Deluxe
CPU - Intel P4 3GHz
RAM - 2 256MB sticks

I'd say it's the motherboard, mainly because CPU's rarely fail. It sounds like you may have blown capacitors: look for any capacitors that have bowed out tops or may even be leaking a brownish crud. If any of them are even SLIGHTLY popped on top, they're blown. All capacitors should be completely perfectly flat on top. Look for any discolored or mis-shapen components on the MB. Even if you don't see any obviously bad parts, I still say it's the MB.
