Hi. I downloaded a utility from Visa-MBNA called ShopSafe that
installs to the StartUp in WinXP and goes to the website when you click the icon in the tray.
It worked fine until a recent Windows Update. Now when I click it, the dialog box is empty except for a red 'x' placemarker. Have checked IE 6 settings for Active X, Java, Cookies and checked the box in View/Encoding/'Auto' and Western Eropean ISO language. Have placed website in 'allow pop-ups' folder. Have downloaded and installed a new version. Still get the red 'x'. I'm not sure I was looking in the right place or checking the right things so I'm hoping someone in these forums can help.
    Thanks so much........deango

Have you tried uninstalling the recent XP update (add/remove) to make sure that the problem is with the update?

Though I have to say that even uninstalling the update may not roll-back the changes. I recently have acquired a problem with MS-Access after an update that even uninstalling the update didn't resolve.

Regardless, you can try it and then reapply it. Ultimately, you should contact the vendor of the software to fnd out if there is a conflict with the update and their software. Quite often software vendors use "holes" in software to make their own software work.

    Hi Kodo.
I'm not at all sure it WAS the MS Update that caused the problem. And there were three or four downloaded at the same time. Besides that, they were Critial downloads and I think
protecting my computer is more important than my utility. MBNA
doesn't have an Email contact and I think ShopSafe is a separate entity anyway. Will continue to Google solutions for the red 'x'. Thanks for taking the time.......deango

Sorry I couldn't help. It's difficult to diagnose situations like this when I don't have the software installed myself in a duplicate environment so that I can test it.

    Hey deango (or anyone else),
Have you resolved this issue? I'm having the same problem.

    Thanks,

Hi Ramius99. Yes I did resolve the ShopSafe issue. Sorry, I should have posted back with the answer.
In IE. Click Tools/IE Options/Advanced. Scroll down near the end to 'Security' Make sure the SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and most important the TLS 1.0 which is what ShopSafe uses. It seems some MS critical downloads can disable some of these sockets for some reason. It happened once before when we had SP1.
Post back if this works for you so I'll know it wasn't just a fluke on my machine. Regards. deango
