Hi all... I recently did a clean reinstall of XP. Everything went fine except when I installed the Via 4 in 1 chipset driver from the support disc and rebooted, I got message BOOT DISK FAILURE and it would no longer boot from the hard drive :cry.

Soooo I started over, re-formatted, re-installed and, perhaps stupidly, chose not to install this driver on the 2nd attempt.:-o

Now all seems fine except I cant get Dolby sound through the hdmi on my 9600gt vid card. The spdif cable from the MB is connected to it but I get only normal stereo through the hdmi.

SOUNDMAX should have SPDIF options but they are not shown now and also POWERDVD can't see the SPDIF out.

    My MB is ASUS P5VD2-MX.

I assume this is because I didn't install the MB driver, but in that case I am also surprised that any sound goes through the hdmi cable at all.

Can anyone help please?:) Can I install the MB driver at this point or would I have to start all over again?

Maybe someone could just let me know if I can install the MB driver from the Asus disk, or if I will have to reformat and install windows again to do that?

    Thanks in advance!:)

    ...or maybe not.

Thought it was a simple question but hey.
