I've been using Sygate Personal Firewall for more than a year and had a few problems get through. My IP offers a free subscription to McAfee, which I just downloaded -- the personal firewall plus, the virusscan and the privacy service.

My question is this -- should I uninstall Sygate? Will it conflict with McAfee?

I also have Avast! On-Acess Scanner running. Should I keep that?

And I have a selection of other scanning tools -- Avast! Anti-Virus, Ewido, A-Squared, Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWShredder and Hijack This -- that I run from time to time. Should I uninstall any of these?

    Thanks.

You should never have more than one anti-virus software and firewall installed/running. Even if you for example tell one of your firewalls or AV's not to run at startup chances are there is a service or two that will still run in the background which could cause a conflict. Pick one and uninstall the other.

SpyBot, A-Squared, Edwido, AdAware, CWShredder & HJThis are on-access scanners (only run when you execute the program) so they are fine to leave installed.

What problems are you having or did you have with Sygate? I been using it for almost 2 years now and never had any problems with it...

I had a couple of trojan horse programs slip through, including one that kept coming up in Ewido scans at "trojan.DNS.changer" but never went away. The Ewido report kept saying that an "error occured during cleaning."

I just scanned with McAfee and I think it's gone. I'm rescanning to check.
