Mcafee Internet Security incompatibilities

I just installed Mcafee Internet security, and it didn't dawn on me untill after, that I would be connected to the internet without a firewall :-o, while it uninstalled my F-Secure, and made me uninstall my Spybot S&D and MBAM, because it said they were incompatible. The Spybot popped up a window durring the uninstall, and asked to select a reason for it, and listed a prompt from Mcaffee as one choice. It said there actually is no problem with S&D running with Mcafee, and it was merely Mcafee trying to shut down competition. Does anyone know the truth of the matter, and how about MBAM?

I had Teatimer turned off on the Spybot S&D, and just the free scan version of MBAM.

 

Unless something was changed in newer version of McAfee, I've never seen any issues with running McAfee along with Spybot and/or MBAM.

Spybot reported this after you chose McAfee?

 

Thanks thisisu, yes the S&D popped up durring the uninstall and asked if I could select a reason, from about half a dozen, for why I wanted to uninstall, so they could improve customer service. One of the selections offered was "because a Mcaffee product requested it" or something similar. When I clicked that, it changed to a statement, actually more of a rant, against Mcafee, and said they have never found an issue, Mcafee has never provided them examples of an issue, they were just trying to harm the competition, and did I feel comfortable doing business with a company like that. It made mw wonder, because I couldn't think of any reason why there SHOULD be a problem with those scanners.

 

Interesting. Do you know version of McAfee and Spybot S&D are you currently running? And you're right, there should not be any issue with any of the above programs you've mentioned running together.

 

Hi thisisu. Mcafee Security Centre vers. 11.0, and it lists also Mcafee Virus Scan vers. 15.0. I uninstalled the Spybot S&D as requested, so I can't check what version it was, but I think it was fairly recent. I haven't reinstalled it, but I have done so with the MBAM, and both it and Mcafee seem fine.
