Hi all. :wave I'm new here at the forum but not necessarily new to majorgeeks. What brings me here to the forum though is that for the last 3 weeks or so, everytime I try to update my mcafee anti-virus via the superdat files from the 'author's site' link here at majorgeeks.com, I get an error message that tells me that the file I downloaded cannot have its signature file verified. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone figure out what the problem is? Thanks, I would appreciate any feedback that is provided. confused rolleyes

Gotta say that until about a three weeks ago I'd been successfully using the updates. I've finally gven up and all the updates I try are apparently downloaded successfully but then when I try to apply them I get a message that says they are corrupt. It does this from where-ever I download so eventaully I gave up and began to use Avast. This does appear to be full of ad-ware though as my firewall as been working overtime stopping things trying to "contact" my PC since I downloaded it. It improved after I ran S&D which removed 25 bits of ad-ware and then I ran Ad-aware which found a further four.

It seems as though if the McAfee engine isn't up to a certain standard the updates don't work anymore. In my case as I still run W98SE I can't update the engine to the level required - so McAfee lost a customer of at least 10 years standing.

All is well again with me and the McAfee superdat updates. Something had changed my security settings in my internet options from Medium to Custom and that was blocking my downloading and verifying of the download. I changed it back manually to medium and all appears well. See if this will help you Yargwel. Hope it works for you as well. Best to you and thanks to you and to all for the replies. Thanks again...

Thanks for the info Drpepper but I've had my settings on Custom for years and I've confirmed that those settings hadn't changed. I did try at the default medium setting but no joy but Avast (which I'm now using) as a smaller footprint and other programs now run much quicker so maybe it was for the good in the end. ;)
