MCI Command Handling Window

Every so often, when I shutdown XP, I get an error box that says MCI Command Handling Window has stopped responding. I can hit end now or cancel, and it will continue to shutdown. I searched google, and didn't find anything. What does this error mean? How can I fix it?

 

disable your shutdown sounds and test..

 

already did that...i hate sounds, so i turn them off first thing after installing windows.

Maybe update drivers for the soundcard.
Maybe check EventLog for more information.

 

I have SP1 installed. The sound is integrated (C-Media CMI8738/C3DX). The mb is an MSI MS-6528. I'll check to see if there is an update for this chip. If there is, I'll give it a shot.

 

ok...i applied the update a while back, and it didn't work. i got the error last night. it doesn't do it everytime i shutdown though. just sometimes.

 

Did you manage to fix the problem? I'm getting the same thing, and it seems to be related to ZoneAlarm.
