I had a LONG online chat session with someone at McAfee to "solve" this problem but what he told me to do has resulted in no change whatsoever in the warnings I receive.

When I go to System tools/event viewer/applications (because I'm always having some sort of trouble and I need to see what it says) over and over again (every few hours of the day) I see:

    Source: McLogEvent
    Category: None
    Event ID: 5028
    User: NT Authority\System
Virus Scan McShield service received an invalid filename from the NaiFiltr device driver
    Received Name=\Global??\TFSWIFS
    Process=IEXPLORE.EXE
(or the process will be =EXPLORE.EXE)

What's odd is earlier (sometimes by minutes or 1/2 hour I'll see an application that VirusScan started scanning -- but it's not set to do that every few hours...

The McAfee guy told me to uninstall Virus Scan and install a new Virus Scan program. But the same alert keeps happening. I did search for what the "source and "event ID" meant but there was no info.

    Any ideas?

Pegg is your PC an IBM one by any chance.... we had one in work that came up with the same with McAfee VS7 until a few patches from IBM cleared up the issue.

    no, it's a DELL, 2 mos. old
    OS Windows XP Home edition

I've been on here quite a bit asking questions since I've gotten it (possible memory problems, shut downs, etc. -- though I think that's been settled). I just wondered if this is "simply" a McAfee problem or if it's starting somewhere else.

I've gotten into the services where you can change things from disable to manual to automatic but haven't done anything drastic (like all that Black Viper says to do). I changed obvious ones like wirless things and network things (cause I don't use them). Could it be related to anything there?

NaiFiltr driver conflict -- no one has any ideas?

I did find the patch for that actually, but, like I said, I don't have an IBM.
I have Virus Scan 8 on my Dell, Windows XP
As soon as I go online I notice that I get this message for IEXPLORE.EXE

And I have "Active Shield" set to "Start When Windows Starts (recommended)" checked for my options...is that causing it to run every time files, etc are opened and it's causing problems (but that's it's job -- to scan files and programs.)

The real question is what is this NaiFiltr device and why is it causing a conflict.

    Anyone?
