MCP61PM-HM memory issue

Hey guys, I'm new to the site, but i have been using it to assist my pc projects in the past...this one has me stumped. I've got a Compaq Presario SR5015LA Desktop PC, with an ECS MCP61PM-HM motherboard. the issue is, it only recognizes one stick of memory out of the 4 slots. I've cleared the bios, reset everything that I can think of, swapped out all of the memory modules, and they all work fine...I'm at a bit of a loss. any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

 

Just to see if I understand this right: You have a mother board with four slots, and you have one perfectly fine and very reliable memory module. That one module only works in one of the four slots, if you move it to any of the other ones, the system doesn't work. Was that right?

Does it beep, or go to BIOS setup, or just do absolutely nothing?

What's the speed of the RAM? If you don't know. Post all the numbers you can find on the labels, and we'll go from there.

 

I have 2 working modules, both of which only work in the first slot on the motherboard. each module is 1GB pc2-5300. when I have both modules in the first two slots it boots fine, but only recognizes 1gb of memory. if there is no module in the first slot, it won't boot but it does beeps. whether the other module is in slot 2, 3 or 4 it doesn't get recognized by the system. thanks again

 

Oh... okay. You are 90% likely to have a bad motherboard. Do you know what the warranty on it is?

You can find out from Compaq, if the PC is from them. Good luck fixing it!
