I had two files that were missing or corrupt which prevented me to start Me. I found ifshlp.sys and vmm32.vxd in the cab files on the Me cd and extracted them to the correct directories. Now when trying to boot the computer it restarts before anything can load. This also happens when safe mode loads. I have a KDS computer. Thank you for any assistance.

Question, did you back up the original vmm32.vxd file?

You can't just replace that file, its a file thats created custom to your system on each install of Windows 9x/ME.

There are ways around that, but I am not proficient enough with ME to tell you how.

If the original file is there, rename it back.

Then from the dos prompt, type

    sys c:

It should say system transferred. That will rewrite your bootsector which was most likely the problem in the first place.
