How on a netbook, do I measure my broadband usage on a mobile/cell network?
And none of that used via other methods, i.e. wifi when at home/internet cafes etc., i.e. similar to an app. i have for my android mobile/cell phone.

Your 3G/4G carrier should have an app for that. I would suggest calling the carrier's customer service dept. for info. on the app and how to download it (by calling, you aren't blowing through data usage trying to find the info. on their website ;) ).

If anyone knows of a third-party app that can measure only the 3G/4G use (excluding data used on your home WiFi, Starbucks, etc.), please post. Having two measurements might be helpful if your 3G/4G carrier ever "accidentally" overcharges you.

Actually this is the only good one I could find, and have tried.
But its flaw that I noticed was when at home and assessing, was that an adobe update downloaded thru wifi, and affected the stats.....I don't want it to count wifi downloads, ONLY that thru the mobile dongle service.....maybe there is a setting I couldn't find!

Since I've passed on a 4G notebook card for now (still have one of the old contracts with AT&T for a truly unlimited data plan on my phone - and I can tether it to my notebook if needed), this hasn't been an issue for me. At home, I have Comcast as my ISP. Although I doubt this will ever be an issue, they have imposed a 250GB/month download cap.

Just in case I suddenly decide to start doing dozens of P2P Blu-Ray downloads, however, I can pull up month-to-date usage stats in your account profile.

If your 3G/4G ISP doesn't offer you real-time (or at least daily) month-to-date usage stats, start screaming to both the ISP and your State Attorney General. The right to know your data usage if overage fees apply is just as important as being able to access your checking account balance to avoid bounced checks and overdraft fees.
