    Hi Geeks!

I have 2 problems (which are in fact the same/similar problem).

I am trying to connect my new Advent T8 media centre Tv to my telewest digital set top box!

my internal pc card is a Medion SAA7134 and i wanted to connect to my telewest digital set top box via the digibox video out scart (that u normally connect a video recorder too:which is what i have had connected in the past with no probs).

when going through the windows media centre connection wizard it tunes into the cable channel (but i cant hear any sound) and the picture is good quality! but i cannot configure the I.R sensor to turn over the channel on my digibox to complete the wizard set up and it therefore terminates without storing the channel.
I have tried to bypass this part of the connection but then when i start the media centre it cant view the channel and i have to go through the wizard again.
I have tried letting the sensor learn my remote (for the digibox) as it doesnt auto pick it up but it cannot learn it and seems incompatible with my remote.

and as i say i pick up no sound when tuned in but i dont know if this is because the procedure is not completed properly???
My sound card is a C-media high definition audio device.

intermittently when trying to re-tune it all from scratch again i get an I.R hardware not detected error message???(no clue what this is either)

I also bought (with my pc but supposedly for another idea i had.lol) a hauppage win tv usb connector and when i try to tune this into the video scart output of my digibox(via a universal modulator) it detects the channel but i get blackscreen.

I have contacted my pc support but unfortunately they havent got a clue as this system is supposedly brand new (in fact i woudlnt recommend any1 to buy an advent at the minute because their help are not very helpful at all not just a lack of knowledge but a poor customer relations attitude).

I have in the case of my win tv purchase emailed hauppage support and am waiting a response but i thought maybe somebody here could put me on the right track or even maybe point me in the direction of another forum if this is not an area that interests the geeks (WHAT AM I SAYING?) however i am sure there is somebody here who is all clued up in this area!

the pc as i said is an advent T8 on windows XP pro with media centre, 1024 ddr ram, 2x intel pentium (R) D cpu 2.80 ghz (dual pipe), 2x 200gb hard drives. and a radeon x700 pro graphics card.

I hope somebody can either help me or point me in the right direction!
As my username implies I am not very pc friendly myself i dont know what most of the terminology means so please treat me like i am stupid because on these things I am :) .

on the subject of this pc(advent T8)( if any1 cares or is thinking of buying 1)its fast and given me no problems other than this media centre stuff, graphics are very slick and in terms of price its a nice bit of kit if i can get this working...lol if only the helpline was helpful i would be extremely impressed!!!!

it may not even be the fault of the pc or medai cards as alot of things arent compatable with telewest digital in the uk!!!!

many thanks guys sorry if i ramble on a bit but i am trying to give you as much info as i can so you will be able to assist me!

hi pirate thx for your reply.

yes it seems to be configured correctly.

As an update to my problem i am in contact with various manufacturer support systems and there does seem to be a problem with compatability with digital set top boxes (and especially telewest)

apparently (so they tell me) people have been able to connect media centre to telewest but it is very much a case of home made fixing rather than a specific solve all solution.

their advice is to attend computer fairs and join forums to try to find somebody who has managed to figure it out themselves (and if i can find a solution to let them know.lmao) so much for the manufacturers!!!!

they release these products and rely on places like the geeks to sort out all their problems for them!!!!

so if any 1 has experience connecting a digital set top box with media centre or any other pc.tv card please give me a shout and maybe your solution will work for me or point me in a direction i can adapt to my own needs!!!

and if anybody has connected to telewest digital please telephone them and hauppage and medion and microsoft and tell them how you did it so they can tell the rest of us.....lol

    many thx!!
