I'm having issues playing any sort of media file. Doesn't matter if it is a low bit-rate MP3 or a huge MKV HD file. The files play, but occasionally, it's like the computer hesitates/hangs very slightly and there is a noticeable audible 'buzz'. So for instance, a song or movie will be playing and all of a sudden, there will be a quick 'buzz' noise. The buzzes don't last but a fraction of a second, but they're very annoying. This happens with all media players.
    I have an HP Mini 311 - 1000
    Intel Atom CPU 270@1.60HZ
    Ram 2.0 GB
    Windows7 32 Bit OS
    Any suggestions? Thanks

I've noticed similar problems in systems running outdated (or default Windows preloaded) audio drivers. Find out which audio driver you need (click the 'start' orb and type device manager in the 'Search' box, then select "Device Manager" from the list that appears at the top-left of the Start Menu; go to 'Sound, Video, & Game Controllers', click the little arrow/triangle thingy, and you'll see the maker of your audio chip). Chances are, there is newer driver available from the audio manufacturer than there is at the HP web site. If you have problems locating a newer driver, or installing a newer driver doesn't help, let us know and we'll try to help. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply! I tried updating NVIDIA highdefinition Audio driver and it didn't work. The IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver is also up to date. I've had this problem from day one. I'm stumped and so far there are no solutions I can find on the net. I love this little netbook, but I'm starting to think I should return it to Costco before the 90 days is up.

What happens when you listen through a headset?
I'm trying to determine if there might be a problem with the inbuilt speakers. (I have an eeepc netbook and I know some eeepc owners have a speaker problem).

Thanks to all who tried to help! I took costco up on their 90 day return policy. HP support seemed to think it was a soundcard issue. I got the same netbook so wish me luck!

    Good Luck, toddler! :)

Probably a wise move. Intermittent issues are the hardest to diagnose. I had a very expensive stereo receiver that had intermittent problems with one channel dropping out. The service department could rarely duplicate the problem and would replace a component that fixed the problem for a while, if I insisted. Fine during warranty but after warranty expired, way too expensive. Best to try a new unit and see how it works.

Afterall, "Loving your little netbook!" is better than "loving your little netbook...except... for this problem with the sound".
