    Windows XP Pro
    Windows Media Player 11
    All Updates Up to Date

Any sound, video or music played has a very bad chop, hop or pause to it.

All video, sound and speakers have been changed and re-changed.

    Monitors and hard drives changed.

    Different players have been tried.
    Problem still exists.

I am by NO stretch of the imagination computer savy, but I like my music and videos.

Any suggestions or free ware to help here?

    Thanks, MC10

Install CCleaner, start it and navigate to the Tools > Startup tab and list or post a jpeg attachment showing all the apps set to run with Windows please.

Use Alt+Printscreen to capture the active CC window.

Save it as jpeg or gif and attach it to your next post.

Ok, we need to rule out any of the startup entries that you do not need to have running at every boot, most can be run from the Start menu as and when needed. Use StartupCPL to control the apps you do not need to be started at boot time. Check your startup entries against the list at Sysinfo.org and remove the entries that you do not need.

Looking at your list, I don't see an obvious contender for your issue but we must try to narrow things down.

When you have trimmed your startup apps, reboot and test please.

I always use ccleaner [tools/startup/highlight/delete ] all programs except firewall, anti-virus. All others are started as needed.

WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS!!!!!!! I have better audio!!!!!
I used ccleaner and stopped everything except:
    SpyBotSD TeaTimer
    AVG 8 Tray
    ctfmon.exe (?) don't know what this is.

I ran the StartupCPL but saw nothin, it d/l but that was it. It disappeared into cyberspace. I saw a RegCleaner on your freeware site d/l and ran, holy cow batman there was and are things in there I do not know what they are. (Not sure if it is appropriate to name names but here goes):

    1) Over 75 entries for AOL (gone)
    2) old gaming
    3) old anti virus
    4) old programs
    5) old external hardware stuff (camera's, Video cameras, etc.)
    6) Things I am not sue what they are or if I should delete them.

Startup 75% better, faster, Shutdown same, Program loading much better.
How do I know where to STOP my Fall cleaning here?

If I fail to say this when we are finished. THANK YOU people THANK YOU!!!!!

Tea Timer can be a resource hog too - but only disable it if you are sure your other protection is up-to-date and you browse SAFELY using Firefox and the NoScript add on or Opera and all your plugins (Flash, Java, etc.) are fully updated.

The only registry cleaner we recommend here is the one built into CCleaner, it's very safe to use at the default settings, any other settings or different reg cleaners must be used with extreme caution - you could make things worse instead of better.

ctfmon.exe will always run at startup if you use MS Ofiice and use a non-US keyboard, it normally uses only a very small amount of RAM, best to ignore it.

After all that cleaning, defrag may help a lot - try one of the recommended freeware defraggers listed here, theyre all better than the built-in Windows defrag. WARNING - do not use more than one defragger, choose one and stick with it, they all use different algorithms so defragging with a second one will be very slow because it will undo much of what the first one did and you will get little or no extra benefit.

What is Tea Timer and what should be running in its place?
I use ccleaner, smart defrag and have been told to use "advance system care".
AVG and spybot s&d run twice a week.
I d/l "C:\Program Files\RegCleaner\RegCleanr.exe" from your list of freeware, mistake?

Sorry MC10, I'd forgotten about this thread :-o

The list you attached really means nothing to me, it's from software I've never used so guessing what it means is out.

Tea Timer is part of Spybot and is used to try to prevent applications being allowed to start with Windows without you giving specific consent. You can turn it off and see if your performance increases, it is not strictly necessary but can be useful (or a nuisance if you often test out new software).
