MPC - BE (Media Player Classic - Black Edition) has stopped working is the message I get when trying to open the program.
I uninstalled MPC - BE using Revo Uninstaller Pro, and re-installed it from the original setup file. But it doesn't want to open.

I have cleaned the junk with CCleaner - the registry cleaner found nothing, and I have scanned with Avast Antivirus & Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, both found nothing.

    Any ideas?

Your BEX error (first attachment), led me here
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738483(WS.10).aspx
so it is a buffer overflow. Your exception code and exception data match what the chart shows on this page.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what has to be done to fix it.

    Thank you plodr.
I will try your suggestion on the weekend.
What I don't understand is why all of a sudden I have this problem? MPC - BE was working fine. And I don't install Windows Updates or other :crap

Computers have a mind of their own! That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :-D

For some strange reason, a game I've played for years broke the other day. I have no idea why and couldn't figure out how to fix it. Support had me download some tool to send a report which I did. Today I found more parts of the game are broken. I also did no updating of anything that would cause it to break.

I made no images for Sept. because I've been waiting for Adobe to update flash. They missed Patch Tuesday. I know as soon as I make an image, there will be a flash security patch. I would have restored the Sept. image to fix the game. As it is, I really don't want to use my Aug. image.

Today, after dealing with a semi-functioning game for a few days, I decided to uninstall it, download a fresh copy and install. My game is working.

page not available? Maybe it was temporarily undergoing maintenance. I tested
it several times, since yesterday, with both FF and IE ... no problems.

We're both in the US, Eldon is not. Could that be a problem?

    The plot thickens...
I can't turn off DEP for MPC - BE.
And the link still doesn't work...

(notice the za code ... your neighborhood)
If the link works, scroll down and select Support>Support home
In the Search for support box, enter fix windows player

The latest version looks to be a 64 bit installer. Could that be the problem?
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/files/?source=navbar

I suspect the 32 bit version is from 2013.

No I have found a 32 bit version
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/files/MPC-BE/

I should not be offered a 64 bit version because I am on a 32 bit computer.

    Lots of versions here
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/mpcbe/files/MPC-BE/MPC-BE Win32/

Perhaps try another version to see if that will work.

Failing that, I suppose you will have to change to a different player.

Version 1.4.4 is what I have. I downloaded it 2 days after release in April. I cannot understand why it would just stop working. And a complete uninstall/re-install doesn't help. And all the registry keys are empty!

I also tried running it as Administrator and in Compatibility mode... nothing helps. It's almost like the program has an expiration date!

    The problem is fixed!
I noticed the 'double-crash' refered to a *.dll unloading. I tried to run the DirectX Diagnostics tool and it also 'double-crashed'. Instead of re-installing DirectX, I repaired Windows 7 to reset some anoying issues, and then I re-installed DirectX.
    Case closed...;)
