I am confused....why would one install the K-Kite Codec Pack which includes MPC + Codecs when simply installing MPC-Home Cinema plays everything out of the box without the need for any codecs??

Someone please clarify which is better and why?

Additionally, how does the K-Lite codec Pack 64-Bit perform? Is it better for me to install since I am running 64 Bit Windows? Can the 64-bit version of K-Lite also player Real Media, and Quick Time files? Or shall I download the Real Alternative and Quick Time Alternatives Separately?

    This is so confusing

And please don't suggest VLC because after the update to v2 it became crap...when I fast forward to a diff. part of a movie, the video gets distorted for a while

I'm no expert on codecs. But my understanding is you need extra codecs to enable Windows Media Player to play certain types of video. Most third party players, like VLC have their own internal codecs which allow them to play various types of video. So codec packs are usually to help people who prefer Windows Media Player view all video types. It sounds like you like WMP and don't like MPC.

Which version of Windows are you using?

I, personally found K-lite great for XP. After install any player would play just about any video format. So if XP go with K-lite and all videos should play.

When I changed to Win7, I found Shark007 codecs worked better which again let just about any video format play in WMP. If you are using Win7 I would say, try Shark007 codecs.

Again, I'm no expert on codecs. Your questions were just so specific I thought no one else might answer. I hope someone else will offer advice. :)

I, personally, just want to click on a video of any format and have it open in my video player. I find after installing Shark007 for Win7, everything works in all players.

For me, once I can play all my videos, I am done with worrying about codecs. Then it is just a matter of finding a video player I like. If all your videos can play then maybe try a few players to find which one you like best.

I used to like KMPlayer in XP but have not found a great player for Win7. I know VLC is always recommended but never really loved that one either. BSplayer is good and I have played around with Zoomplayer recently but nothing stands out as the best for me since moving to Win7.

You don't have to stick with MPC just because you have installed codecs. Once installed codecs should be system-wide and accessible to all players.

Both versions of K-Lite's Codec Packs were updated in February; does that make them "outdated"?

    1) K-Lite Mega Codec Pack plays any file in the world even 3GP videos from Mobile phones and RM and MOV, anything you throw at it as well, and SO DOES Media Player Classic Home Cinema

    2) K-Lite Codec Pack and Sharky's Codec Pack get updated every 2 weeks at least, so what are you talking about being outdated?

This comes to show us that you have no idea what you're talking about and no knowledge of Codec packs you just recommend CCCP coz you use it and obviously hate K-Lite for some serious relationship issue between you two! Heh
