Media Player Problems

    ok so i went to try watch a video that i just downloaded. i didnt have any updated codecs so it didnt work. so i went around and got them. when i tried to play it again windows media player opened for a seconded and closed it self. no error or anything. I tried a song... same problem. i tried it in quicktime... same thing. Please give me some suggestions im lost

    OK i just gave the computer the rundown... not a single piece of spyware or trojans or anything on it so thats not the problem
