Media Player

I came across Final Media Player by chance.

It supports more than 80 formats!
Does anybody use it?

 

Never heard of it and it's not available at Majorgeeks so I did some digging. It has 3 hits on Virustotal as malware. Only 3 can mean it is a false positive but 3 is usually the number where you should be suspicious of malware.

I get the feeling that you should install it with caution. Possibly has an install wrapper and bundled software. VLC is the best and is known to be clean.

Also found this comment. Kind of confirms my suspicions.

It was free highly rated and never gave me any pop ups or tried to add programs until now. As for why I got it I needed a player to play a certain file type that windows media player could not and that was what popped up at the top of the Google search result for that kind of file player. It had great reviews and I liked it. But as of today they have sold out and are putting all kinds of crap with their update.

I agree about VLC.

 

The download button reminds me of a scam software website. Then the download page has what looks like information but is just a bunch of begging for donations so the website alone is enough to raise suspicions.

There is also this [fmpsetup.exe = malicious] that I didn't include because it is a lot of information that I can not explain.
