Media Streaming to TV

I've been researching and trying this for a few years, I want to stream music & videos on PC to a TV in another room in the house.
I've had a Pinnacle Showcenter for a few years, but I have never managed to use it wirelessly (instructions & held-desk abysmal), and is now out-of-date.
I am looking for a newer solution, has anybody another ideas or experience of other products that can do similar?
I've heard of popcornhour, and I think netgear/d-link/lnksys have versions, but the selection is complicated....help!

In my opinion it's better than any streaming box, those just seem to be real buggy, and can get quite expensive. You can use Windows Media Center and get a fairly cheap remote control from newegg or your favorite store. Just run windows file sharing and it's done. The only reason I haven't purchased this, is I currently use my laptop to connect to my home theater. But if they ever come out with another, faster model, I might change my mind. newegg's price is $329

as for standalone boxes, I have a friend who had nothing but problems with the western digital line of players. He said he had some problems with playback "clunkiness"


edit- i see you are in the UK, so I'm not sure of prices, but I'm sure you can find these items at your favorite store.
