Well not really as their are only a handfull of CD fabrication plants and they produce all the CD/DVDs on the market today. but yes their are cheaper specifications that some manufacturers specify.. however I have not had any issues with TDK, Memorex I have not tried so couldne comment.

I will suggest from my experience most DVDs from Fujitsu, Ritek, Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim have been all ok... but these disks do come under the names of the likes of Sony, Maxell, 3M, TraxData etc

I'm using Phillips branded DVDs and DVDRWs at present and they have not given me a bad burn yet.

Worth looking if your DVD writer has a bios update as they add compatability for newer CD/DVDs or try burning at a slower speed, I find even tho it takes a while x2.5 speed gives great copies.

 

Work out what your DVD drive manufacturer is, goto their website and see if for your model drive they have any firmware ( ment to say firmware rather that bios as not to confuse with motherboard bios which you should not change in this instance ) updates.

you can check your Device Manager > DVD/CD rom drives listing for make and model names.


or Use Everest and once installed check Computer > Summary and it will list all your specs including CD/DVD drives.


You tried burning slower with those DVDs to see if that helps?
