Any of you meet folks in real life? I met a group of folks a few years ago in Texas, made several good friends. Going to the Northwest part of Arkansas June 6'th and 7'th.

Meeting some folks from another forum. We are going to shoot a bunch of 1911 45 ACP guns. What better way to turn 45?

Got a call from a person I met in the Texas meet, third annual dove hunt is in the works.

And taking PDP (practical defensive pistolIII) class from my Texas friend in July..

All folks I 'met' online. Of course, we will all most likely be CCL handguns, so no big deal.

I have a few times, from here and other sites. One friend from a now defunct forum ended up virtually adopting me into his family, and became an annual vacation spot for me after that first leap of faith when I bought a plane ticket. I had booked myself a hotel room and rental car, but about 5 days into the trip I got rid of all that and have just stayed at their house ever since.

I was lucky enough to spend a weekend at G.T.'s house shortly before he passed away, driving home from that first friend's house. He put me up in his guest bedroom, laid in a supply of beer, and we went to Graceland. :-D

Met for a meal or a drink (sometimes more than once) with people from various cooking/recipe/restaurant sites when I've been traveling near where they live or they've been here.

Does online dating count? I ended up with a guy for almost two years I met through a dating website, although that was almost 15 years ago.

More than once I've stopped in to see someone if I happen to be traveling where their business is located; that's always fun.

What's funny for me is I've never met (or even spoken verbally with) my bosses at the websites I write for. We've known each other since about 2001, but we've never met. Doesn't matter, really, it's just funny.

I haven't met a lot of the people I made friends with online, outside of the internet (= in real life). Too shy. :-o

One of the very few times I dared to do just that though, it worked out very well. Twelve years later, we remain happily married. :)

I met up with a couple of peeps from a now defunct forum that I was an admin on and we kept in touch going to LAN parties and also they would visit me to pick over my computer graveyard for parts so they could build PCs for needy people in their area. When he lived near Melbourne we also used to go out to dinner and a couple of beers maybe every three or four months but he was offered a lot of money for his house so he sold up and moved to central Victoria to start a new business. I visited a couple of times but it was a three hour drive each way so we kept in touch on the net. The business didn't do so well after the GFC and we kind of lost touch when he again moved to an even more remote rural area with no internet and a satellite connection was now beyond his now limited budget. :(

The other dude I helped get a job using my contacts in IT and the company were very pleased with him so they then sent him overseas for some management training and after a couple of successful years here they promoted him and offered him a position living in France as International Marketing Manager. :cool

@Mimsy awwww nice story and good on you :heart

Played wow for 8 years and happened to move to tx.

Found out that some of my guildmates either lived in tx or close by.

Met one person in dallas and another in Louisiana.

The one in Louisiana is now my half thai brotha from another motha.

Ive also met quite a few beeradvocate.com members, austin scuba, north austin, austin rider groups, some mc, txvroc, lone star riders and other online friends i have made in Tx and have alot of new friends.

Never have met any of you yet though!

I've met people online before but not from here. It was in my young teen years but now I'd be a little hesitant because there seems to be an abundance of crazy folk lately.

If an opportunity presented itself to meet people from this forum, I'd probably do it because I really feels as I know many people here in a personal level. As long as it's in a very public, busy place with plentiful and easy means of egress :-D

A girl with an escape plan. LOL

I've got too LOL Too many unexpected things could happen and one needs to be prepared.

Also, I've gone with my family or a friend to places, where the only person I knew was my family or friend, and I hate(d) being trapped in someone's house I don't know without the ability to escape if I start to feel overwhelmed. Because even though I'm friendly and can make friends easily, I'm really, painfully, shy at first. So that's where I hatched my first escape plan.

Well, meeting some gun folks next week. I imagine most will be carrying, I will be, but will be at a gun shop... So, I suspect pretty safe. Have had really good luck in the past with folks I meet, hope that continues.

Looking forward to seeing north western Arkansas. All the picts I pull up look awesome. Being a flatlander, small mountains look cool.

I think there are a few forums like major geeks out there that you could probably feel fairly safe meeting folks if you've been there a while.

Crazy folks do abound though. :-D

Hailing from the UK where people with firearms are the exception rather than the rule, I find it almost incomprehensible that anyone would feel secure meeting up with strangers with lethal weapons. I hear so much about the many tragedies involving guns in the US it makes me wonder about your gun laws

Really? Without going HBT, but do you also fear potential energy? Keep in mind, depending on the state, CHL people have passed a background check, have no felonies, or past mental problems. Compare that to who you might be sitting next to at the theater. ;)

I am very respectful of potential energy. But I don't fear it. Plus, in the free areas of the US, you never know if the person you just met has a gun on them or not. That whole concealed thing going on.

Yes for folk online I have met over the years most not on this forum BUT NICKADSLUK aka Nick one of our moderators yes we have met in real life at a Microsoft gig a few years back.

I just think in many cases its distance stopping folk meeting up, as if i'm back in the USA for work stuff I will see what state and city I'm in and see if there are members I know in said state and see if I could arrange a meal or beers!

If I ever get to takin' that road trip, maybe I'll keep y'all informed. I haven't set foot on the continental 48 for quite some time, and that quick trip to the Home Depot just on the other side of the Holland Tunnel back in December really doesn't count!

If you do find yourself on our lovely Long Island, let me know...

OK, just did the meet and greet with about 9 people, nice folks. My cell phone does not work, so had do get creative contacting people. Off in the am to tour the company, then range time.

Lots of guns, only saw one safety violation which I pointed out, person noted the mistake and did not do it again. Good stuff.

They got mountains here.... And there is an ironing board in the room, be damned if I am doing any ironing. :-D
