Ive got 2003 Server, and ive got a domain name which i would like to host myself (im buying it off tk) but i dont know the first thing about setting my own DNS server up. Im a tad, ok, make that COMPLETLEY confused as to how im sposed to achive this, if its possible at all.

From what i seem to remember, you have the server set as your "DNS server", on a client, and it asks for a name to be resolved. What i dont understand is how im sposed to make this available to anyone who types in the domain name. In the same way i dont understand how email "works".

Well, anyway... a link would be nice:)

where ever you registered your domain...login in at set the DNS server to your ip address of the server.
then in IIS, set up the website for "ALL UNASSINGED" ip address.. then add the host header alias to the website, make that header the www.domainname.com

I run my own DNS and have the information about my primary and secondary domain name server available for registration.
Please run the DNS service for me. Dot TK will charge you an annual fee of USD 35.00 for this service. Changes made in My Dot TK will be effective within 5 minutes.
Please use the free Dot TK URL forwarding service.

*faints* 35 dolleres? i cant afford that! can i find somewhere that i can use as a DNS server..

eh, you're missing the point. ALL domains are located in a centralized location. You login to your account where you purchased your domain name. Then you modify the DNS record to point the IP of the machine. A DNS server is NOT THE SAME THING AS A DOMAIN NAME. I can make a DNS server and call it yadda.com and it's not going to pick up www.yadda.com unless the DNS record has a destination for all of these requests.
Now, if want to have a dynamic DNS entry, that's different. www.no-ip.org will help you with this.
but you still have to have host headers in order to host more than one site on your box.
