mem3200error

I recently bought pc3200 400mhz ddr memory for my BIOSTAR P4M80-M4 478 VIA P4M800 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard and the memory manufacuter was Patriot Signature 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory Model PSD2G400KH, when I tried to install both ram chips making the computer full, the vid card wouldn't power on, so I took one out making it to be 1gb and the system powered up fine, but when I checked control panel it told me that my system only has 512mb when right now it should be 1gb. The bios is up to date.:eek I used to have 512mb x 2 making it 1gb at pc2100 and it worked fine. But I need the 2gb to play games.
I don't know what else to do? Thanks for any help given.

 

I see different versions of the motherboard you described. Did you use www.crucial.com to evaluate your board for max and type of RAM?

If you go there with your machine, it'll tell you exactly what you can install.

 

I've gone there and it says that my current memory is 512mb and the max is 2gb

 

And did you match the sticks you bought against what crucial showed?

Is there a setting in your BIOS for video card memory allocation?

And did you try BOTH sticks, one at a time?

 

Yes I did and everything check out good. I believe there is a bios setting for my video card but its done automatically. and when I put both chips in the system will power on but the video card doesn't work. I've also bought a new video card and that it has the same issue as the older card, it just won't power on.
