memory compatibility

i recently bought a new case, motherboard and processer . the motherboard is a 775 dual vsta and the processer is a pentium d 820. is it possible to use standard ddr 400 3200 memory with this processer? or do i need to use ddr2 memory? i bought a 1 gb memory from ebay and it seemed to work ok on my old motherboard but kept on getting blue screens when i installed it into my new motherboard. i took it out and put in the old 512 memory and so far its been ok. but i just want to know if my memory is ok to work with that processer. someone told me that i cant use single core memory with a dual core processer. is that true?

 

also i have an agp geforce 6600gt installed

If this MOBO is this AssRock http://www.asrock.com/product/775Dual-VSTA.htm It takes both DDR or DDR2 memory (Not at the same time but one or the other, when installed in the correct slots)

There is no such thing as single core memory

If your getting Blue screen's post the exact error message!

 

i had different ones.

i had one saying irql not less or equal

one saying win2k.sys
one saying kmixer.sys

there were a few others but cant remember them all

IRQL usually points to memory, run Mem test
