the memory I have (pdc1g3200llk), a 2x512 dual channel kit by patriot, is fairly ancient (6-7 years). I am doing an overhaul of this computer and I have found the need for another gig or maybe two. I am hesitant to just "buy" some more memory and after looking at the current newegg stock of ddr1 pc3200 memory theres only 1 set of sticks by patriot (PDC2G3200LLK).

now if I were to buy those sticks, with my current sticks it would be 2x512 in one channel and 2x1gb in the other channel, would I still be operating in ddr mode and would it be my best bet to stick with buying those set of sticks or try another brand (ocz/g.skill)

    thanks for reading

You can run equal amounts in each channel and still run in DC mode
(one 512 and 1G in each channel)

right on, I've put in ddr-1 memory of the same clock speed and roughly same timings but different brand in before and it lost its dual channel ability. so I am not very optimistic in that regard.

so I know you pretty much answered this #3, but, if i got a 2x1gb kit, I would be able to use it with my current 2x512, either in a 1(512) and 1(1gb) in each channel or "the more unlikely to work in dual channel mode" of, 2 512's in one channel and the 2 gig sticks in the other.

sorry for not just accepting your solid answer.

Well you would want to use something like memset and adjust all the primary and sub-timings so that they are in sync. Moreover, you would want to manually set the RAM vDIMM and primary timings in BIOS (not "spd") here and they may eventually work together.

memset is for very experienced users only as it will allow the adjusting of "all sub-timings" not just those listed in BIOS.
