Have you tried taking the memory out and reseating it in a different slot?

A memory dump in most cases is not related to faulty memory.

It is possible, but not probable.

In layman's terms, a memory dump is Windows unloading the contents from RAM when it encounters a problem.

There are a few tools you can use to check the dump file, such as Dumpchk. There is also a link there to download some debugging tools.

Be aware however, that these tools are more for Micro$$oft tech support rather than the end user.

I'd check all the basic things first like hardware, Device Manager, Event Viewer and Error Logs etc.

It appears that the problem could be the sound controller that is on the motherboard...

i grabbed an old disk and reformatted it - loaded windows afresh and then the drivers one by one as soon as i loaded the drivers for the onbaord sound it came back with the same problem i had 10 days ago (starting then rebooting)...

removing this and no problems...so far

i'm actaully using my computer to access the net now!

i will set restore points and add things back to the system bit by bit. pity about the old c: drive but at least all my files are still available but not the programs i've used that i don't have disks for... boohoo

ps. i got into trouble last night as i worked backstage and apparently made eye contact with one of Cher's entourage... @#$%ing divas!!!!

    Hey Julie,

I wouldnt really recommend running those utilities if you got it up and running. The reason I asked about memory reseating is because, its best to start with the easy things and work to the hard things so that you dont get in too deep and mess up more than you fix. Let me know if you have anymore problems.

    Hi,

well I have slowly been installing cards and drivers one by one and then creating restore points... so far so good.

it looks like the drama is over!

many thanks for all your assistance and i appreciate all you have done to ease the pain ;^ )

    thanks

    Julie
