Memory Issue ?

This post may be describing something 'normal' or 'to be expected', but it doesn't seem right to me.
At certain memory usage levels, e.g., when the largest IE11 process usage rises above 1000000KB, sometimes less as shown by the TaskManager (this number invariably increases with time, it has been as large as 1200000KB), or when Perfomance tab, Physical Memory Usage history on TaskManager > about 6GB (note I have 8GB installed), IE starts giving me black screen tabs, unresponsive tabs, and other minor problems making certain tabs unusable.

Why is it giving me this ? I seem to have enough spare memory, even though I have 10 tabs open.

When you say that 'Memory' use is spiking at 6gb, are you reading that from Task Manager > Processes > Memory?
You would have to be adding that up yourself I assume as on mine (in Win 10) it doesn't show a total, just a 'MB' amount for each process. It doesn't show in KBs in Task Manager on Win 10. I can't remember if it did in Win 7.
You need to look at each iexplore.exe process (or the number of them) and the total RAM being used.
Given that you are having problems with browser tabs something isn't right. And unless you have other major ram using programs open at the same time 6gb of RAM use out of 8gb seems not right.

Forget the usage levels, what is the CPU percentage?
I have one computer starting on Patch Tuesday and for 3 or 4 days afterwards, the CPU usage is 100%. I chalk this up to Windows 7 updates being broken. After all the updates are installed the CPU usage drops.
Currently it is at 18% but Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday it was 100% and I had to kill svchost so I could use the computer.

If the OP comes back to clarify exactly what it is in Task Manager they are referring to, then yes they also need to look at CPU as well, but if RAM usage at those times is hitting 75% of a massive RAM installation, then something else is clearly going on. That's why I asked them to specify what other programs/processes are running at the time. That would be a full picture.

    thanks for your replies.
To answer the CPU question, the usage seems to middle to high. If it were flatline 100, and I'd noticed, I would have said. I didn't mention CPU because although it's moderately high, it is nothing unusual (I would say) and still has plenty of room even at peak usage (it doesn'tshow spikes as I would describe them). It doesn't seem to match with CPU usage in 'Processes' which is never more than 20percent for a process and usually 2-3 for one process, while the majority the processes use 0 CPU. I have a few applications running, Skype is quite big on memory and CivilizationIV (at present) uses upto 600000KB in Processes, with 0 CPU; a couple of open PDFs, the HP tools app which opens by itself, a notepad & two small Excel 97 .xls files open.
I have read that the Memory usage graph includes IE11 'might use' memory, while that displayed under Processes is only the memory actually being used by the program, 0r something like that (I don't really understand it except by analogy with compiled program memory usage)

At present I have a total of 113 processes, some I don't know what they are and a few autoloasders which I haven't bothered with, Appleetcetc, Updaters, etc, which take less than 1MB and 0 CPU. sometimes AVGetc are very active but they take up only modest memory and more CPU

The only program I have used is Task Manager, mainly with reference to the 'Processes' tab and the Memory (Private Working Set) column, and the Performance tab Physical Memory Usage History graph

I will include screen shots next time they might be applicable, but I have just reopened tabs after killing the relevant processes to recover from IE11 freezing (I could still use my use my other applications though)

I hope this makes everything clear as what I have been using/looking at, Max. by the way, even directly after bootup my system uses 4 of the 8 available GB of RAM as viewed in the Performance tab Physical Memory Usage History graph

A problem occurred with IE11 soon after I made my last post, all open tabs in one window went black screen, another was whitescreen, I had 3 'copies' of IE11 running, a 'master' and 1 'In Private' and another 'In Private' with 4 open tabs. After trying refresh on a couple of tabs which did not seem to make any difference, I looked in Task Manager with the intention of making a screenshot...CPU usage seemed 'normal' but 'Processes' Memory was over 1,000,000KB (1.2GB IIRC) and on Performance Memory it was 5.92GB. Instead of making a screenshot, I tried clearing the cache (which in similar situations is often locked out) by Internet Options>Delete and selecting delete all (via individual 'check boxes). This had the effect of reducing memory usage to <600,000KB in Processes and to 5.19GB in the Performance Graph, AND gave normal usage back in the IE11 windows

I attach a screenshot of the performance tab in IE11 (when running normally) to illustrate CPU usage (5.92GB is not a limit but I do start having this kind of problem at around 6GB mem usage as displayed in the Performance tab graph note that at the actual moment when I took the screenshot mem usage was indicated as 6.34GB)

Further info. I often open new tabs because of links in open tabs, eg the link in your previous post, Max, or in my email etc. Just as often I close them using the red x on the top of the tab because I believe that this will help keep mem usage down, but maybe it still occupies some memory, which accumulates as the number of tabs opened/closed grows ?
Also I am using an external monitor and a wireless k/b and mouse (an old MS700 v2 desktop, k/b is slightly defective). I do not believe the hardware additions make much difference to the performance tho'.

You still need to do the below in post #6.

NB: The simplest way to delete cache is close all web browsers and cache using programs and run CCleaner Slim > Cleaner in its default settings.

Hi my friend , have you trying another browser ? Is the same situation ? Few tab is better than many tabs , hp laptop's is very hot at the summer generally , thermal pad is necessary ;)

Just as an added note, in your posts you keep using 'Kilobytes' and it is best not to do that. It doesn't show 'Kb' measurements in the screenshot, it uses Megabytes (mb), and from my memory of Win7 it is not different to Win8 or 10, in TM >Processes it shows memory use for each process in MEGABYTES (MB) and/or parts thereof. Using '1,000,000 KB' (which is about, not more, than 1gb) is just confusing as I don't know where you are getting those expressions of use.
