First time to post here.Hope i can find some help.My cpu (amd 3000,512 mb ddr sdram, 160 gb hd) acts as if it is running in mud. Ran every program i could think of to clean it out (spybot, adaware, registry cleaner, etc.) to no avail. Ran sysconfig. and unchecked most items in startup. Went into system monitor and it read: Memory\pages/sec graph consistantly read 100%,Physical disk(total) avg disk que length graph was a constant 98%, Processor total\% processor time graph bounced between 12% and 30%. This was with no programs running at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I should mention that after running all of the cleanout programs things were better for about 3 hours and then everything was very slow loading and shuting down. The computer constantly sounds as if it is loading a program even if sitting for hours at a time

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Is your processor and memory displayed correctly in the Bios?

    What is your operating system?

    When did this problem occur?

started about 1 week ago out of the blue

So you've got constant, high hard disk drive usage and moderate cpu usage with no programs running. Sounds worrying. I don't know what it is.

You say you ran Spybot, AdAware et al, but what AV and firewall do you have installed. I'm thinking if your problems started bout three hours after running those programs, you could have been re-infected with any viruses/spyware you had.

the problem did not start 3 hours after running these programs. Cpu ran poorly cleaned it out it then ran fine for about 3hours and then the problem resurfaced

That's what he meant, so he said "you were re-infected with any viruses/spyware you had".

Really, it sounds like some sort of backdoor trojan running.

do not know if this will help at all but if I restart cpu it runs fine and dandy but slowly reverts to everything slowing way down this takes aprox. 1.5 hrs of cpu time befor things start to slow down again
