On my 3800 AMD MSI mobo K8T800Pro with dual channel ram there are four slots. two pink and two purple. Darn it I can't find the book right now but am I suppose to put one stick of ram in the pink, one in purple so that I can utilize dual channel. It said I think to use the purple for one stick of memory first but if running dual channel.... well it got me rather confused. I've got two sticks of 512 bought as a set.

Yes 1 stick in the pink and 1 stick in the purple. What's the confusion?

The confusion was whether to put both in purple or both in pink or one in each. The fact that I'm old and tired might have helped also.
    Thanks Mr. Earp

Oh, also, I don't think it matters, but chances are you'll want to put them in the pink and purple slots that are closest to the processor. Those should be slot 1 and slot 3. :)

They will go in dimm 1 and 3.

On the picture below it is the top dimm slot and the third one down.

    1. Put first dimm here
    2.
    3. and then here
    4.

    second set would go...

    1.
    2. Here
    3.
    4. and Here.

    Happy computing!

I get the impression that your MB is setup to use Dual Channel memory from what you wrote, BUT DID YOU BUY DUAL CHANNEL MEMORY? That's my question, or do you just suppose that you did. I believe Wyatt is right on this one, use slot 1 and 3 the way he describe it if you do indeed have dual channel memory. Of course you could always just go to the support section of MSI's website (on obviously a different computer) and see what they say, or check with their tech support.

Dual Channel means two identical sticks of ram in a dual channel configuration, which is a product of the chipset not the ram itself. There is no difference between a dual ram sticks and regular sticks other than they are sold as a pair. If you put a dual channel set in a single channel chipset MB you will only have single channel memory. On my motherboard, in order to have dual channel the sticks need to be in the same colour slots.

Not necessarily. In some cases, you are right. However, not all different sticks of RAM will work with each other. (Same size or not) And some motherboards are more picky than others. Buying the sticks as a pair guarantees you they will work together. Basically, they are identical sticks of RAM, so if they work in single channel on your motherboard, they will also work in dual channel.

Assuming, since you have a K8T800 with 4 memory slots, one of these is your motherboard. So, MSI says to put 1 stick in each color, like I said before.

P.S. - Rikky, you don't have the same motherboard as mgrist. The memory slots are laid out differently.
