memory problem

    just purchased two new sticks of pc 2100 ddr 512 mb ram and for some reason my comp is only reading one. the memory is kingston and im running XP home.

    all I can think of right now is: make sure both sticks are seated correctly, take one stick out, then use the other in both slots to make sure you don't have a bad slot, and finally try both sticks alone to make sure you didn't get a dead stick.

    cpu type- amd athlon 2500
    motherboard- pcchips m851
    chipset- via vt8378 unichrome km400

    Ok, i took out both sticks and put each one in slot one and booted up. Each stick is read in slot one.

    yes, both read in slot 2 just fine

    yes, i found nothing in bios for memory

    demented, what specifically were you asking him to look for in BIOS, cause there's a chance he overlooked it... tell me what it is and i'll look for it (that's my roommate)...

    Have you updated your bios at all; what about VIA drivers?

    i have not updated my bios or drivers. i had two sticks of 256 in there before this, and they both worked.

    What about resetting bios defaults? Or optimized defaults. Or updating the bios.

    Do you have the m851g or m851ag motherboard?

    M851 V 1.3A is what it says

    Sometimes incompatability issues exist with BIOS's, thats a very generic motherboard so im not surprised your getting probs.

    it must be 851G since thats the only one that runs V 1.3

    Only thing I can suggest is reset the bios.

    Or

    Flash the bios with the latest bios update.
