My motherboard says it needs DDR 400 3200, but there's a DDR 333mhz 2700 in it. And my computer keeps shutting off when I try to install an OS. Is the ram probably the problem?

It would help if you told us more about your systems configuration, but as far as the ram the 2700 speed is 333mhz and the 3200 is 400mhz it should not matter about the speed difference it could be you motherboard is picky about what brand ram it needs, if you look on your motherboards web site you can find what ram they certify with that board or it could be a different problem all together need more info on your system to figure it out. I think if you post your specs I or someone here at Mg can help you out

I'm looking at Newegg.com right now, and they have a Buffalo 256 mb ddr 400 3200. And the abit site also recommends the buffalo ram, so i might just get that.

Just a thought, I don't think the brand of RAM is the problem... Before you buy a new stick, try borrowing one from a friend and see if it fixes the problem.

If you get as far as the os install screen the the ram has passed the mem test,so its unlikely the ram,I would look towards faulty HD/install or bad copy of the os also post which os you are using and exactly how far you get.
