Memory Question?

I have a 256MB DDR SDRAM PC2100, speed of 133MHZ. can i combine it with the Samsung 512MB PC3200 400 MHz DDR400? Would my memory speed still be 133MHZ? Is there anyway to fix it?
cuz i heard that 512 one would run at 256(which is the slower speed) speed. I also have another question, if i buy Samsung 512MB PC3200 400 MHz DDR400 would it increase speed of my graphic card, cuz i think it's shared memory.(I have a Intergrated Graphic Card (Intel® 82845G Graphics Controller (Intel® 845G Chipset Family).

First of all, what kind of motherboard do you have? Does it support PC3200 RAM in the first place? And no, I pretty sure it won't increase the speed of your graphics card. The GPU (graphics processor unit) is intergated onto the MB and it is what actually does the Graphical calculations. The shared ram just means that it uses a designated portion of the 256 as its "chalkboard" to do its calculations on to speak figuratively. Adding ram just increases the "chalkboard" size, not the speed at which your graphics card does calculations. Besides, the graphics card is set only to use a specific amount of the RAM.

 

My motherboard is a Intel 8485GL.

 

if your motherboard supports pc 3200 and you mix it with the pc 2100 the memory speed will not increase it will run at the slower pc 2100 speed. If it supports pc 3200 you would be better off just having the pc 3200 than mixing the two.

 

What current processor do you have?

 

I agree with jamcgriff. But I can't seem to be able to find anything about your particular motherboard. Are you sure thats what it is, an Intel 8485GL.

you could always keep just in case something ever happen or you could sell it. I like to always keep a backup of certain certain system componets. There is a thread on this site you could post it here if you want to sell it.
