I think Im having memory issues. My windows are consistently freezing, for a few seconds, and then they work. I've checkd firewalls, checked for viruses, for spyware and defrag on a regular basis and still I have freezes. I want to use memtest86 but I need help. I need to create a boot disk (CD), do I put the memtest file on the same bootable disk? If so, do I put the zipped file or the unzipped file? Sometimes the windows freeze, whereas if I drag a window it looks like a shadow of several windows (of the same thing) I hope I ave explained it. Its an older computer but I keep it tidy and chk everything, I think one of my memory modules may be bad. I clean often (CC CLEANER), I Defrag with Diskeeper, have all my firewalls, maintain all updates. Chk registry issues, etc. Here are some strange things: It takes forever to chk for Windows updates, my screen saver freezes (Ive disabled it), and the windows often shadow. Any help is greatly appreciated.

To run MemTest you need the MemTest.Exe file which is one of two files in the Zip file.

You can if you wish put it onto the bootable disk - there is a windows version of this program now I believe that runs from within Windows. So for that you just boot normally then run the executable.

You don't have to run a test. Just boot with only one memory module and reboot using another. If the problem appears only with one of the sticks you have found the guilty. Can you post the system specs and elaborate a little on the RAM modules' brand, age, history?

PS you also mentioned more than firewalls. It is good to run only one.
