I recently tried to upgrade my memory from 128MB to 512MB. I ran a memory scan on www.cruicial.com and it recommended a 168-pin DIMM SDRAM PC133 258MB which I decided o put in both my memory slots.

I purchased the 2 modules and tried to install but my PC just beeps a few times and then does nothing.

Is the memory not compatible ? I though if I bought this spec, it would work regardless of manufacturer.

Am I missing something or have i been sold some duff memory ?

    Any help would be appreciated.

Installing new memory for the non-technician is at best 'Iffy".

If crucial sold you the memory based on what you told them about your PC, then it's correct unless you gave them bad information.

When you are going to install a new DIMM in the socket on the motherboard, the white locking latches must be all the way out, at a 45° angle to the motherboard. Then line the DIMM up with the notch on the DIMM lined up with the raised boss in the ram slot.
Put the DIMM in the slot and press down till both latches snap into the ends of the DIMM.
Assist them if need be to fully enter the notches on the ends of the DIMM.

Beeps during boot up usually means the mobo is NOT reading the RAM.

So....re-DO your work and let us know what's happening. OK?

Will do doc !! Crucial did a scan on my machine to determine which memory I needed, I actually purchased the item locally but it was eactly the same spec as given by crucial.

Meant to ask, Doc. If I do all this and it still doesnt work, does that mean te RAM is dodgy ?

No luck I'm afraid. I am going back to where I bought the memory, I presume its not compatible.

I am not sure if this is what your after but my PC is Fujitsu-Siemens Scenic eD-1170A, not sure the branc of memory. Does hat matter ? I thought it was the specification that was important.

It looks like PTA or something like that for the brand if I am looking in the right place. I have a sticker with 256PEZWG4 if that helps ?
