memory upgrade

    office depot sold me this memory A016S6464-PC133 512mb sdram pc133 sodimm. But when I install it my laptop will not start up just keeps restarting. saying there is a conflict with hardware. It says it can take up to 1gb of memory. Please tell me what I need to do or what memory I need to buy. I just want to speed up my laptop

    HP Omnibook 6100
    intel p3 1133mhz
    722mhz, 256mb of ram

    I tried but it says you have to have a floppy and my laptop does not have a floppy so is there another way to upgrade bios
