    Hi,

    OS: XP SP2
    Firewall: Sygate Personal Firewall

    CPU: Athlon 64 3000
    Mem: 1GB
    Motherboard: Asus A8n-e (Nforce4)

Motherboard driver :not sure, haven't updated since August.

Whenever I download a file, memory gets eaten up. E.g, when downloading a 700MB file (http), the memory usage increased from about 30% - about 75% by the time it finished downloading. This occurs with all downloads (http, bit torrent, limewire). From task manager, it doesn't seem like anything is using that much memory (like 400MB) . I know that some programs i use are known to have memory issues, one of them being, azureus, but it occurs with all downloads. Is this normal, or not?

    Please help

    Thanks in advance

Are you talking about Performance, or CPU Useage? Any intensive program will eat a lot of CPU cycles.

    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

It shouldn't really be using 75% on a fairly powerful system like yours, but it's hard to say.

At any rate, I would pay a visit to the SPYWARE FORUM and follow their recommendations in the "stickies" to be certain.

Task manager reports about 75% of RAM being used about (400mb more than when not downloading)...prob is it doesn't show any process using close to that much memory.

As for spyware/virus, I canned with both Ad Aware SE and spybot S&D and found nothing. Symantec Anti - virus can't find any viruses either.

I'm just wondering but when u download stuff do they first store it somewhere on the ram or something? Also could it be a problem with my ram?

    thanx

I doubt if there is a problem with your RAM, otherwise you would have noticed other issues.

If you are unsure, then use something like MEMTEST to check it.
