memory

hi everybody hope someone can help my motherboard is a asus p5pe-vm i recently bought 2 gig of ddr memory when i installed it i got the dreaded blue screen when i contacted the seller i was told it was because my motherboard was not compatible with hi density ram i was wondering if any updates for my board would solve this ie flashing the bios or updating drivers would solve this any help would be great.cheers:confused

 

Go to the motherboard page at Asus, and see if that memory is listed as compatible.

Who was it that told you it wasn't? Asus, or the memory vendor?

The memory vendor should also have a compatibility list.

Don't take the word of the first person you talked to.

 

When you look up the motherboard, look for something along the lines of RAM component density. Then look up the memory you have, and see what the component density of the part is. (Probably 256Mb or 512Mb.)

Also, give us as much information about the memory as you can. What brand? What is the part number? If it was an online vendor, do you have a link to the product description?

And of course, is there a reason you can't do an RMA through the seller and exchange what you have now for compatible memory?

 

thanks for your reply the memory was bought from a shop on ebay from america when i contacted them regarding this issue they said they had checked my board on asus and said it was incompatable then tried to sell me low density for more money as i am a novice to all this i took their word for it but did not buy any more ram off them and now cannot return ram i have anyway many thanks for your reply i will take your advice and check my board on asus site cheers
